Well if you play it solo it's harder and playing it with friends is a lot of fun. Gamespot's rating was too low. They'd rather play some easy game like hello kitty.Monster Hunter (Do you need buddies??)
Yes, you can solo this game but it gets hard around HR6 in the Guild Quests. The Old Lady quests are fairly easy to complete. About Gamespots score, it was extremely low in my opinion.Take a look at Famitsu's(most or one of the most reliable critics) score on Monster Hunter 2nd G(Freedom Unite in US), I think it was 10. 10 has only been given to a few games. GS reviewers complain about the no lock-on function but this is what makes it fun, seriously they need to grow up.
You can complain about a lot of small things but once you get over them its a pretty good game. Check a few videos on youtube and read around. The game is solo-able it's just funner playing with your friends.
