PSP won't charge

My psp fat stopped charging my battery. I can still play if it's plugged in but as soon as i unplug it it turns off. When i go to the battery status screen it will say charging for a couple minutes and then say ''charge complete'' but my battery level is listed at 0%. I don't really know what happened. I've had the psp for about 3 years now. The only things i can think of are that the battery is just dead or got messed up the other day when my psp locked up when i was using the web browser and i had to pull the battery out to get it to shut-off. I tried putting a battery from a psp slim in mine but it didn't seem to work.

Do you think i just need a new battery or what?PSP won't charge
Also i just recently updated my firmware to 4.0.PSP won't charge
may be your battery is loose and i would reccomend a new psp any way
great idea. i should spend well over a hundred dollars when all might be wrong is the battery.
Seems as though your battery is dead mate, look into a replacement one, maybe go to a sonyrepair shop and try a battery out to make sure.
I would recommend getting a new battery, and check you PSP charging cable and make sure there are no slits in the wiring or rips, etc. The PSP Slim battery was never meant to work in a Fat PSP (to solve that part). If a replacement battery doesn't solve this, I would take your PSP to get it inspected or repaired. If worse comes to worse, purchase a new PSP. Try checking e-bay or a free ad-website near you area to get it cheaper. Hope this helps!
Cool, i will get a new battery first and see if that works. Thanks.
ok the problem seems to be quite common and it seems to be quite common to buy a new battery to solve it but you dont have to.

1>psp only runs of ac

2>battery charging light(orange) lights only for short time then turns green again

3>battery status in xmb is

charge level 0%

remaining time -

battery status - CHARGE COMPLETE

ive checked the battery voltage through irshell it said

charge level o%

hours left 0.0

power source AC

Battery status Charging

Battery volt:4184mv

ive googled and found out that there is the possibility to cross wire(short)the plus and minus of the battery to make it work again.

i did try it on two of my batterys more than once and it didnt work.

so i came up with another method.

the voltage of the battery was so high it was (overcharged)full

so I took a bulb of my motorbike and connected it to the battery.

it was 12V and 21W.

drained the battery (took a long time)

and even left the bulb on there for another hour to make shure that it was totally empty.

then after i put it back in the psp(without the bulb connected ;)

it finally started to catch the charge back like it used to in the old days. i think the problem is that the chip in the battery is kinda crashed.

the chip tells the psp that its got 0%.

but the voltmeter in the psp tells the charger that its full and stops charging to prevent burning the battery.

since the chip says 0% the psp wont even try using the battery to prevent data loss.

whatever i hope i could help people with this.

it sucks having to buy a new battery when the old one is still good.

have fun.
