No PSP Competitor????

Just wondering what you guys think about why there hasnt been a rival to the PSP. I know there is the Nintendo DS, but i really dont consider the DS and the PSP in the same league for the same reasons i dont consider the Wii in the same league with the 360 or PS3. I like the PSP and i think there is a lot of potential there. I dont know, what do you guys think?No PSP Competitor????
PSP rivial is the DS becasue it doesn't matter about the hardware capabilities, it matters whether it is a handheld or console.No PSP Competitor????
The DS is really the PSP's competitor, since it's stealing a lot of it's thunder. Just because it's not the same hardware and technics that doesn't mean it's not a competitor.Though I see your point. For a technical competitor I don't think we'll see one for a LONG time. I think it's impossible at the moment for an out-of-the-blue company to make it's own successful handheld to compete the PSP. Until Microsoft makes it's own handheld (if ever), I guess the PSP is on it's own hardcore handheld plateau.

The DS IS a competitor but for me it doesnt feel like it, and is kinda sad that is so much more popular than the psp cause is a formidable system with tons of potential..
Okay, I understand that the DS is in fact a handheld, and therefore, can be considered a competitor to the PSP. In my opinion, however, the DS caters to a younger or more casual audience. Thats not to say that adults dont own and enjoy the DS. All I'm saying is that I find it kinda odd that there isnt another company (aside from sony) that hasnt tapped into this Handheld Gaming Market targeted to a more mature/hardcore gaming audience. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the technology isnt quite there just yet. But, you have to admit, there is huge potential there.
Think about iPhone as a strength competitor of PSP. It's a great piece of hardware (even better than PSP when comparing specs..).

I have a DS and even though it is a really fantastic system the point of younger and more casual games hit home. There a a few titles that really stick out on the DS (like Chinatown Wars, DragonQuest, FF IV, ect..), but the PSP is simply a much more hardcore platform. I love handheld so I think having both is just right...

Wii remote + DS = ipodtouch

Wii remote + DS + phone = iphone
I think the ds is a strong competitor and the itouch/iphone is catching up but they have their own niche of casual games

I forgot about the iPhone. The iPhone has the potential to take the handheld market by storm, definitely. They just need to develop some sort of cradle or something that has physical buttons. That way, u can sit the iphone into the cradle and have both the touch screen AND the shoulder buttons, joystick, directional pad, etc etc. That would be decent.

It's a phone with apps on the side.

Why wouldn't you count the DS as a competitor? It has sold over something like 105 million units worldwide whereas there have only been around 55 million units of the PSP sold. :?I agree that the PSP is a great piece of hardware and it sucks that there aren't really a lot of great games being released for it, but not considering the DS to be ''in the same league'' as the PSP is pretty stupid. It might not be as technically impressive as the PSP, but there are far more innovative and fun and generally ''better'' games being released on that system than the PSP.
